Tangent is a tactical map and event tool for airsoft and milsim events, run privately from Finland. This page describes what the site stores about you, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
One cookie, named tangent_session, which keeps you signed in for 30 days. Only a hash of its value is stored on the server, so a copy of the database does not hand anyone a live session. There are no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Your username, avatar, level, teams, public description and the events you have signed up for are visible to other signed-in users. Comments you leave are shown publicly on the profile, team or game area you left them on, with your name and the time. Your email address and phone number are not shown to other users. A report you file is shown to administrators together with your name; the person reported is not told who reported them. Site administrators can see everything stored about an account.
Your data is not sold, and is not shared with third parties for advertising. Map tiles come from Maanmittauslaitos and OpenStreetMap, and event listings mirrored from kuulaportti.fi are fetched by this server, not by your browser, so those services do not see who is looking at them.
Account data is kept until the account is deleted. Sessions expire after 30 days and are deleted on sight once expired. A comment is kept until you or a moderator deletes it, or until the profile, team or game area it was left on is deleted. Content you posted may remain visible where it forms part of an event's record after your account is gone.
The site chat keeps the most recent 200 messages; older messages are deleted as new ones arrive. Comments and chat messages are scanned locally for possible spam, threats and abusive language. Matches create reports for administrators to review, including a copy of the posted text and its author. These report copies can remain after a message is deleted or rolls out of chat; automatic reports are removed when the author deletes their account. Scanning does not automatically hide content or ban accounts. Chat is visible to signed-in users, who can copy it.
Under the GDPR you may request a copy of what is stored about you or ask for it to be corrected; write to the address below. To delete your account and its data, use Delete account in Account settings. Map objects you drew stay on the event's map without your name.
One limit on deletion: where content has been reported to the authorities as criminal, the account's data and that content are preserved for as long as the investigation requires, and a deletion request does not remove them. See the terms of use for when that applies.
For anything on this page, including a data request, write to admin@tngnt.org.
